Each month, usually the last Friday, we get together at a local watering hole for an after-work drink and to enjoy the company of good friends. It's a great chance to sample the TJCS experience and meet our members without any obligation to join. In fact, as with most of our activities, non-members are welcome!
TGIF is basically just an informal gathering of friends. There's no program, no speeches, nor other formalities like that. We simply gather at the bar after work and enjoy food, drinks, conversation, and fellowship.
Please note that as Friday is usually a busy night for our host venues and sometimes they have live music or other entertainment scheduled. In such cases, there is usually a music charge of about ¥500 for all customers. Thank you for understanding.
TGIF takes place at one of several restaurants/bars in the Nagoya region that are popular with expat clientele. It's a different location each month. We have a list of our favourites that we visit on a rotating basis.
Most TGIF events happen in the downtown Nagoya area, but once or twice a year we choose another location in the Tokai Region such as Okazaki, Gifu, or Tsu/Yokkaichi, etc..
You'll find details of upcoming TGIF events on this page.
TGIF usually happens on the last Friday of the month.
In rare cases, when other things are happening around the last Friday, we will hold the event a week early. Please check the schedule.
We list the time of the event as starting at 7 pm, however it is not a formal event with a starting announcement. You can drop by any time throughout the evening.
There is no cost to attend the event itself. TJCS does not charge a fee.
Naturally, we do ask that you order food and/or drinks. So, please pay the venue directly for anything that you order.
Sometimes the venues have live music or other entertainment on Friday nights and all patrons are charged a music fee (typically about ¥500).
Reservations are not neccessary. In fact, we don't take them at all other than your option of indicating "Join" on the Facebook Event Page.
No. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us at TGIF.
TGIF is an acronym that stands for "Thank God it's Friday!"
It's a popular expression among workers to express their happiness that the busy work week is ending and the weekend is upon us.
